The Full Range of Therapy Services
Therapy is an extremely important component of treatment, especially for surgical cases. Therapy provides relief from chronic pain; improves motion, strength and flexibility; and often can help patients avoid surgery altogether. Our physical therapists and hand therapists are certified in their specialties, having demonstrated the highest level of professional expertise.
Patients receive individualized treatment that is developed in collaboration with their attending Danbury Orthopedics' physician or Physician's Assistant. We are a patient-centered facility, striving to provide the best hands-on treatment, integrated with your physician's involvement and oversight, for an exceptional level of care.
Danbury Orthopedics offers the full scope of therapy rehabilitation. Our therapy services include:
Physicial Therapy is most often used for the treatment of chronic musculoskeletal conditions and for pre- and post-surgical procedures. As part of The Hand Center at Danbury Orthopedics, we offer sub-specialty rehabilitation for the upper limb, including the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder. Hand rehabilitation performed by CHT's (certified hand therapists) is offered at our White Street office in Danbury.
Customized Evaluation and Treatment
The Physical Therapist /Occupational Therapist is responsible by law to evaluate your specific area of injury/dysfunction. The therapist will review your history and prescription and then go through an individualized, physical assessment. This will lead to identification of deficits to be addressed during the course of your treatment. From this evaluation, a treatment plan will be devised and shared with you. After the plan is formulated, treatment will commence using a variety of modalities and procedures always performed by licensed professionals. Rehabilitation technicians are there to assist the therapists, but not to provide treatment.
Sports Medicine - Our Sandpit Road office is staffed specifically to address the needs of an active population. In this setting, athletes, even those of the weekend variety, are able to be seen by a team of MDs, PAs, PTs and ATCs whose special expertise is the safe return to play/participation.
Total Joint Program - Our office at 73 Sandpit Road in Danbury is specifically staffed to address the needs of the pre and post operative total joint patient. We offer a pre-operative class at convenient times, led by a PT who has himself undergone a joint replacement. He will guide you through this process and answer your general and specific questions. Please watch our video on this topic: One Man's Journey.
Pilates - Use of our Pilates Reformer may be recommended as an integral part of your rehabilitation. Our certified specialist will help to determine if this method will be appropriate for each patient and instruct in use. Classes are ongoing, and self-pay options are available.
Splinting and Bracing (Orthoses Fabrication) - Our Occupational Therapists are also CHTs (Certified Hand Therapists). They work closely with our surgeons to determine who will benefit from customized splints (orthoses) and braces for upper extremity dysfunction. Your splint or brace (orthosis) will be effective in minimizing pain and aiding in recovery.
Orthotics - Our PT specialist will evaluate the need for customized shoe inserts or help to determine if non-custom, off the shelf, devices are appropriate for you. Custom orthotics are frequently not reimbursed by insurance; we will work with your insurer to help deterrmine coverage options.
Phase 4 - This self-pay, cash based program is an extension of your gym exercise program. It allows you to continue your program on your own under the supervision of our specialists. Your therapist, who is knowledgeable about your progress and current needs, will follow you during your session but without the hands on component. Your exercises will be monitored by our staff and modifed as appropriate as you progress.
